WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – A West Terre Haute-based manufacturer is expanding, forming a new partnership with a similar business in Illinois. Marion Manufacturing announced it’s merging with Morton Machining, which is near Peoria. This is the company’s biggest news since expanding in 2008.
Manufacturing Day is an annual event that occurs nationwide on the first Friday of October.
To recognize the hard work of local manufacturing workers, Mayor Duke Bennett presented a proclamation at Marion Manufacturing, in West Terre Haute.
In the Wabash Valley, manufacturing employs 17% of all workers.
The Riverton Parke High School Livestock Judging team has received support from several companies with ties to the Manufacturing Industry. The team has been hard at work fundraising for their upcoming trip overseas to compete at the Royal Highlands Show in Edinburg, Scotland. The team earned an invitation to the International Competition after their Reserve National Champion honors at the Western National Roundup contest in Denver on January 12.
Eight students and two chaperones’ from Riverton Parke will be traveling from June 19th thru July 3 to attend the International Livestock Judging Contest and Tour, hosted by the Scottish Young Farmers. Team members are Cory Edge (a 2012 RP graduate), juniors Matt Marion, Shelby Benell, and Kelly Dressler, sophomore Tanner Edge, and freshman Megan Marion. The students will be traveling with 4H and FFA teams from California, Colorado, Texas, Kansas and Wyoming.
