Manufacturing Industry Supports Indiana Youth

The Riverton Parke High School Livestock Judging team has received support from several companies with ties to the Manufacturing Industry. The team has been hard at work fundraising for their upcoming trip overseas to compete at the Royal Highlands Show in Edinburg, Scotland. The team earned an invitation to the International Competition after their Reserve National Champion honors at the Western National Roundup contest in Denver on January 12.

Eight students and two chaperones’ from Riverton Parke will be traveling from June 19th thru July 3 to attend the International Livestock Judging Contest and Tour, hosted by the Scottish Young Farmers. Team members are Cory Edge (a 2012 RP graduate), juniors Matt Marion, Shelby Benell, and Kelly Dressler, sophomore Tanner Edge, and freshman Megan Marion. The students will be traveling with 4H and FFA teams from California, Colorado, Texas, Kansas and Wyoming.

The Riverton Parke High School Livestock Judging team has been soliciting individual and business donations as well as hosting fundraising events since receiving the invitation to compete in Scotland. West Terre Haute based Marion Manufacturing Inc. owner’s Tim and Tammy Marion are the parents of Matt and Megan who are members of the team. They along with Haas Automation, Sycamore Insurance and Hobbs and Co. have made large contributions to help the team toward their fundraising goals. Hass Automation is the largest CNC machine tool builder in the Western World and supply Marion Manufacturing with high-tech equipment used in the manufacturing process. The Manufacturing Industry has close ties to agriculture with many companies supporting production of equipment used by farmers and ranchers. Tammy Marion, President of Marion Manufacturing Inc. said “We think this is an excellent opportunity for these students to learn what agriculture production looks like in other countries. Several of our vendors agreed and wanted to support them as well.”

Doug Edge, Coach of the team stated “We are so thankful for major companies like these supporting us. The students are learning so much more than just livestock evaluation.” Marion Manufacturing has also hosted the team members for work days at their facility allowing students to see firsthand how manufacturing is done while earning money toward trip expenses.
